| General Overview | To Kynian the world is full of mysteries to be unraveled and new things to be discovered, and he takes that energy everywhere he goes. He can be just as curious about a novel plant species as he is the new menu in the mess hall... or the new officer in the lab. While he's learned to tone down the questions over the years, he's always grateful whenever someone's willing to indulge him from time to time. There's just always so much to learn! While not particularly ambitious, Kynian is dedicated: once he's working on something, he's determined to see it through. The same goes for people: he's fiercely loyal to anyone he considers a friend. |

The only hobbies he won't get into are artistic pursuits: he can't help but compare his work to his sister's, and that's... just not a good idea. |
| Personal History | Kynian grew up on Andoria, in a home that everyone else described as "comfortable". One of his parents was in the Andorian Imperial Guard, and always hoped to see a child follow in her footsteps. When it quickly became clear that his sister was never going to be good enough at following orders to be a serious candidate, that pressure fell on him. Unfortunately, Kynian was entirely uninterested in military service. He bore the years of hints and lectures and extra classes with flat antennae, watching with barely suppressed envy as his sister was free to pursue her artistic dreams. The schooling wasn't all bad, though. He found he had both a love of and aptitude for science, and he took every chance he could get to pursue that further. After all, no one could make him sign up for the Imperial Guard, they could only make it uncomfortable for him not to. He was perfectly willing to be uncomfortable at home as long as every day when he went to work, he got to do what he loved. Interested in the potential for collaboration it offered (and in getting away from the constant pressure to change his career plans), Kynian signed up for Starfleet Academy on the sciences track. It wasn't what his parents really wanted, but either they'd find a way to convince themselves it was the next best thing or he'd be lightyears away and could decide he'd only read their messages when he wanted to. During his time at the academy was also when he realized he was trans and started his transition from chaan to thaan, though it was not one everyone around him understood. While to an Andorian being chaan and thaan are different, both read as male to humans, which made transitioning between the two an invisible change in the eyes of his peers. His colleagues weren't misgendering him, exactly, but they were rarely able to offer more than token support. After graduation, he served aboard the USS Nightingale to no particular acclaim. He didn't care, though: the work was interesting and that's all he wanted. Now, he couldn't be happier to continue that work on the Meridian. |
