602 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
Operation Shadow
Location: Shuttle Pod 1
Shuttle pod one had arrived just outside of the Reach. The doors opened as Chief Petty Officer opened the door and hopped out. Standing outside was Andre Hunt, who quickly bypassed Heath and stepped inside. "Give me a few moments in private Heath."
"Yes Sir," the Stoudemire acknowledged.
Sitting down at the comm, Hunt contacted the Meridian and they quickly patched him through with Starfleet Command. A few minutes later, he found himself face to face with Commodore Maurice Bell.
"Andre how are things your way?"
"Have you read my report on their current situation?" Hunt inquired.
"Been skimming through it," Bell answered. "Sounds a bit like a mess."
Hunt nodded. "We can say that about a few worlds that recently joined the Federation in recent years. As I recall Alpha III, Vega IX and Orodanga still give the Federation Council concern."
The Commodore couldn't even debate that fact. "So, what exactly are you suggesting Dre?"
"Orions have shown up, and I know that they're trying to recoup their losses due to Federation interference in their affairs over the last few years. I want to open the doors for a trade agreement and offer them conditional associate status."
Maurice raised a curious eyebrow. "You want me to present that to the Council?"
"Yes," Hunt spoke. "If the L'Dira was solely an issue for the Trill, then just imagine the mayhem Orions in the sector will cause."
Bell knew exactly what his friend's words was absolutely the truth. Starfleet had made it a priority to crack down on the Orion Syndicate and all of its supporters. The last thing they needed was the Orions to get their hooks in out here. "I will contact the Commander-and-Chief. See if can get the Federation Council to have an emergency meeting to address your request."
"Thank you. I'll try to buy time until the council comes to a decision."'
"Guess I don't have to tell you to watch your back with the Orions," said Maurice. "You have as much experience dealing with them as any other Captain. Word is there's a bounty on your head after that business in the Doradus System."
"Trust me, I don't need the reminder," Hunt replied with a sigh. "I recall that this all started with the task of returning scientist to Trill. And getting to know the citizens of that world. Now we're single-handly trying to bring peace to the area, while having the Syndicate over our shoulders trying to ruin things.
"Well, Dre, if its any consolation. I seriously believe that you're the best man for the job."
"Just looking forward to the calm."
"After finishing up here Meridian will be on its way to Denobula," the Commodore responded. "Should give your people some much needed shore leave while picking up supplies. Do you really think these L'Dira will consider working the Orions?"
"The L'Dira resulted in piracy due to desperation," Andre brought up. "Most of the people on their world have no clue what their government has sanctioned to keep things running around here. If we give them other options, then they can possibly make better choices."
"Then I better get to you then." The screen then went black.
Stepping outside of the shuttle, Hunt approached Heath. "How were things looking at that grid?"
"Honestly, its a marvel," Stoudemire admitted. "But it's falling apart. They could use all the help they can get."
"Just as long as its the right help, Chief."
